Awe View Railway Cottage offers charming Highland accommodation

Dec 18, 2018

The thought of a dream getaway in the Highlands of Scotland might well conjure the image of a cosy stone cottage nestled at the foot of a majestic mountain overlooking a serene loch.

Awe View Railway Cottage is just that picture perfect location, and thanks to a couple from the United States with Argyll roots, this charming property built in 1883 has been lovingly refurbished and is available for your enjoyment.

Owners Julie and Darren came across this historic railway cottage in need of TLC when visiting Scotland from the States, inspired by Julie’s Scottish heritage.

“My Campbell great-grandparents were from the area, and my mother's grandmother was born in Inverness,” Julie shared. “Lochawe has certainly always been our favourite place.”

The couple took on the challenge of renovating the property to a beautifully high standard while going back and forth from Scotland to the U.S., and in August, delighted with the results, they began letting it out when they cannot be here to enjoy it themselves.

“We thought it would do pretty well, but have had great feedback from guests and have been amazed to be solidly booked since we opened,” said Julie.

With thoughtful touches like a cosy wood burning stove and Wi-Fi, modern and comfortable design throughout and decks that take advantage of the views over Loch Awe and the Pass of Brander, it’s no wonder that Julie and Darren fell in love with Awe View Railway Cottage and saw its incredible potential.

Whether planning a romantic retreat or a family holiday for four, Awe View is a central Argyll location that makes it easy to explore Oban & Lorn, Inveraray, Glen Coe, the Inner Hebrides and the Argyll Coast. And being handy to the on demand train station and the local bus stop, you don’t even need a car to get around to many locations. You can even bring your pet!

But you don’t have to go far to discover the charms of Lochawe, where you can get around easily on foot and find a shop for groceries and fishing supplies, a popular village pub and attractions such as Ben Cruachan, the astonishing St Conan’s Kirk and dramatic Kilchurn Castle. The cottage is the perfect base for outdoor lovers who can take advantage of the area’s mountain climbing, hiking, walking, wildlife watching, sailing and world-class fishing.
