After a stroll around the town visiting the local shops, you can enjoy a meal or drink in one of the many restaurants or bars.

For the moderately active, Oban town centre is also surrounded by miles of dramatic coastline, offering a mix of adventures. Enjoy a leisurely walk to Pulpit Hill, or you can head to Ganavan Sands for a stroll along the beach, taking in the beautiful sights across to the Isles. On your return, it couldn't be easier to mingle with locals and enjoy the very best of Scottish hospitality or take in a lively traditional music or entertaining events that take place throughout the year. 

For history lovers, there is an abundance of historic sights and places to visit to enrich your knowledge. You’ll want to visit the Oban War & Peace Museum, Dunollie Castle or just out of town, you will find Dunstaffnage Castle.

For the adventure seekers and island hoppers, you are best suited to cram in as much action and adventure as possible. Take the short ferry trip over to the Isle of Kerrera, where you can explore the island on foot and visit the amazing Gylen Castle. Alternatively, take a boat trip to Mull, Iona & Staffa to see the magnificent wildlife, abbey, puffins or Fingal's cave.

Good to Know

When to visit: All year round. Oban offers a range of activities and a chance to enjoy the surrounding areas throughout every season. Spring and Summer are best for boat tours and experiences. Winter is excellent for quiet visits, local walking and winter festivals. Whisky & seafood are for all year round!

What to pack: The West Coast of Scotland offers many different types of weather - sometimes all in one day! Think layers: a light raincoat, a warm fleece, quick-drying trousers or shorts, sturdy walking shoes. Leave the umbrella. If you get caught short, there are many great shops in the town with everything you need.

Travelling to our islands: Oban is known as the gateway to the Isles and is serviced by Caledonian MacBrayne and some local authority Ferries. Although some services can be booked on the day, we recommend booking in advance to ensure availability. Consider leaving the car; many of our smaller islands are easily walkable, with some bus services available. Research each destination and plan accordingly.
