Radiant melodies, dazzling agility and theatre from first note to last: join us in a joyful celebration of wind virtuosity and symphonic brilliance.
An evening of wit and Mediterranean warmth awaits you, as Lucas Macías conducts a programme that lets our wind soloists truly shine.
Rossini sets the stage with the effervescent Overture to The Silken Ladder, a playful curtain-raiser brimming with comic charm. Weber then puts the clarinet in the spotlight: SCO Principal Clarinet Maximiliano Martín brings virtuoso dash to the lively Concertino, before SCO Principal Bassoon Cerys Ambrose-Evans joins him for Stamitz’s elegant Double Concerto, full of conversational interplay and Classical poise.
Weber’s Andante & Rondo ongarese gives the bassoon its own star turn, combining tender song with irresistible flair. The concert finishes with Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony, bathing the hall in musical sunshine, its dancing finale sure sending you home smiling.
