Set in over 3 acres of wooded garden, Alt na Craig House is truly one of Oban’s most striking pieces of architecture and has a rich history having been commissioned in 1865 by Professor John Stuart Blackie, a renowned academic and socialite. He understandably described it as his perfect highland retreat.
From its enviable, elevated position, the turreted Victorian house boasts the most romantic seascape views across Oban Bay to Dunollie Castle, the Sound of Kerrera, the Firth of Lorne and over to the Isles of Kerrera, Lismore and Mull. All this accompanied by a spectacular backdrop of the mountainous Morvern Peninsula. We also have a large off road private car park, a rarity in Oban!
With friendly personal service and exceptional attention to detail, Alt na Craig House creates a peaceful and tranquil setting in which you can relax in style whilst exploring Oban and the surrounding area.
The house has been sympathetically refurbished to offer luxury bed and breakfast in boutique style accommodation whilst preserving many of its stunning original features. The spacious en-suite guest rooms present interior design of exquisite quality. Each has its own special character and the deluxe fabrics and furnishings have been chosen with these in mind. All rooms have tea/coffeee making facilities, luxury toiletries, fluffy bathrobes as well as flat screen TVs with Freeview and Ipod docking stations.
Although it enjoys the serenity of a rural location Alt na Craig is only a short walk away from the centre of Oban and all it has to offer - award winning restaurants, lively pubs offering great food and entertainment, distillery, shops, cinema and the rail, coach and ferry terminals.
