Lorn Drama Festival

A three night festival of one-act plays in Oban performed by amateur drama clubs. Tickets are available for each night or a discounted Season Ticket for all three nights. This year's programme is - Thursday 9th May Oban High School An Inconvenient Crime by Kenneth P. Langer An intriguing short comedy play. A stranger approaches a couple at their home with an unusual request: he asks if he could possibly rob them that evening—only if it’s convenient for them. Appin Magnificent Seven Market Value by Liz Dobson A comedy in which Martin Oaks is a con man, relying on his solicitors to keep him out of jail. His latest plan is to sell a rat-trap of a house for a quarter of a million to an unsuspecting couple who don't know it's falling down and about to be on a major road route. Or so he thinks... Seil Drama Club A Bird in the Sand by Caroline Morgan A three-handed comedy with a sly twist in the tail. Helen spends her days online, she’s a one-woman neighbourhood watch. Sophie, her daughter, is on the last few days of maternity leave. And Robin, well he’s in thrall to three women. Friday 10th May Lochnell Primary School A The Roman Invasion of Britain An original script by one of Lochnell’s pupils. A village tribe are invaded by Roman soldiers and a battle commences. Emperor Claudius makes an appearance as a narrator. Lochnell Primary School B The Romans The Romans is set on a Roman road under construction and a villa full of wealthy Romans preparing for a visit from the Emperor Claudius. Accent Players Fate’s Thread by Stephen Bean A ghost story, a murder mystery and a light comedy. Susan Davies is a successful executive who doesn't take well to being a ghost. She has to share a cold graveyard with the loud-mouthed Alice (who was burned as a witch in 1647) and the prim miss, Harriett (stabbed to death, 1884), who won't accept that the car crash that killed Susan was just an accident? Saturday 11th May Taynuilt & District Drama Society juniors Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations by Alan Ayckboun A bright comedy about the extraordinary powers of Ernie Fraser, a dreamer with a difference. Ernie has a vivid imagination; and his thoughts have the disconcerting habit of turning into reality. Benderloch & North Connel Drama Club Trapped! by Michael Green A comedy from the School of Course Acting. In Trapped!, Major Thompson and his wife are at home in their country house, as are cousins George, Sheila and Freda. The family solicitor and the maid make up the house party but one of them is a murderer and escape from the manic is impossible. They are all Trapped! (or they would have been if the stage crew had done their jobs properly). Seil Drama Club Juniors Rude Mechanicals by John Colston A funny and sometimes frantic new one-act play. Four girls have been left to their own devices in a spooky old country house. They have promised their parents that they will behave and keep the house neat and tidy. They decide to put on a play. Nothing could possibly go wrong – or could it?”
