In recent years the Forestry Commission have been opening up more of their forests to leisure users and the group that has benefited the most is mountain bikers. Hundreds of miles of gravel topped tracks that allow whole days to be spent away from tarmac have meant a huge increase in the amount of mountain biking on offer. Some of these areas can be linked with sections of B roads to create weekend or even week tours.
Close study of the Ordnance Survey maps for the area together with the Forestry Commission leaflets reveals lots of possibilities for cyclists of all standards. |
